Dr. Grace Kim, DClinPsy
As a clinical psychologist, I have an eclectic approach to therapy and draw from several therapeutic models and techniques to fit the specific needs of each client. The primary therapeutic models used in my sessions include cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT).
In the past, I have had the privilege of working at a community mental health center that was part of a district health board (DHB) in New Zealand, as well as serving as a full-time lecturer at a university in Korea. At present, in addition to providing therapy, I am involved in teaching both undergraduate and graduate students in Korea. Furthermore, I have developed a keen interest in cross-cultural transitions and adjustment due to both my personal and research experiences, which has fueled my desire to explore this topic more deeply and support individuals who are navigating these challenges.
I strongly believe that genuineness is a crucial attribute for a therapist, as are compassionate guidance and offering valuable insights, as it enables them to offer clients a supportive and understanding atmosphere. In addition, I endeavor to adopt a holistic approach when working with clients, taking into account their unique strengths, beliefs, and values, as I believe that this approach provides a more comprehensive understanding of their situation, and promotes long-lasting change and growth. Ultimately, it is my view that the goal of therapy should go beyond eliminating symptoms or deficits; it should aim to empower individuals to live a life that is congruent with their personal values and aspirations.
